World's most Exciting Cruise Ports

History stands as witness that most of the world’s greatest civilizations mushroomed close to the sea. What started as small trading ports, today some of these destinations are sprawling, complex cities pivotal to their country’s economy and tourism potential. And most of these cities now have state-of-the- art ports that welcome cruise ships of all sizes to their shores.

For cruisers, this means getting a glimpse into the city’s cathedrals, temples, fortresses, and other antiquities in a short period of time. While some historic sites in Rome, Florence, and Bangkok are more than an hour from the actual port, other sites take 30 minutes or less to reach from the cruise terminal -- an important convenience if your ship only docks for a few hours.

Luckily, some of the world’s best cruise ports like Barcelona, Venice, Copenhagen, Vancouver and Singapore are either starting or ending points (or both) for many cruise liners which gives cruisers the opportunity to extend their stay in these magnificent cities either before or after the cruise.
